I’ve been way, way behind on the local music news-type stuff, unfortunately. I have a stupid tendency to just kind of “collect” news I get for long periods of time, waiting ’til there’s enough (in my OCD brain, that is) to post about…

Houston has always, always had awesome, amazing bands. Screw the naysayers; it’s the honest-to-God truth. Even in the lean times, even when 99.9% of this city thought “Houston music” was pretty much ZZ Top, Destiny’s Child, and nothing else…

I’ll freely admit that I’m not convinced that signing to an actual record label is all that critical to a band’s success, these days. Hell, I’m tempted to argue that it never has been. Even setting aside the Albini-esque financial calculations of being on a major label…

This is less of a “hey-we’ve-got-news!” post and more of a “what-the-hell-y’all?” post… Yours truly happened to notice (via the magic of the WordPress Broken Link Checker plugin) that the Website…

Okay, nobody panic. Remember earlier, when we posted about the Temporary Insanity garage-punk-rawk fest going on this coming weekend? Well, apparently some genius at Facebook decided…

Ah, damn. Thanksgiving’s supposed to be a time for good news, not bombs dropped off-handedly like this… Got word earlier today that Houston-/Austin-dwelling “stoner-pop” hero {Arthur Yoria} will soon be forsaking H-town…

Very cool. It’s always struck me as weird just how few honest-to-God indie music stores this city has; I mean, we’re Houston, for crying out loud, the fourth-largest city in the damn country, and yet I can think of maybe eight record shops in the whole freaking Houston metro area that sell punk or indie-rock stuff…

Yep, it’s true — yours truly had been reluctant for a long time now to dive into the whole Twitter thing, in part because, well, we’ve got a whole lot of other stuff to keep up with here at SCR HQ as it is…

Damn, damn, damn. Apparently I missed the real-brief note about it on the band’s blog last Friday, but I happened to see this AM that the guys in the band had gotten back online and explained a bit further…

Damn. This bums me out — while I was initially a little skeptical of the whole {Houstonist} thing, I’ll admit, back when it started out, I’d been really, really liking what Editor Marc Brubaker had done with the place…

No, not talking about the Angelina Movie (really, really, really not, trust me). I’m talking, instead, about a bar, a bar in the Washington Ave. strip of fancy-shmancy trendy bars that are probably driving the Heights-dwelling NIMBYs more batshit crazy…

Nearly missed this one completely, dammit — thankyew, Facebook… Tonight (Thursday, June 3rd), the cool folks of {Girls Rock Camp Houston} are having a fundraiser up at a place I’ve never heard of called Beaver’s (2310 Decatur)…

Not sure if this’ll go up before the Blogger cutoff, but hey, it’s worth a shot… Earlier today the Free Press Houston gang pulled back the curtain and revealed some new details about the upcoming Free Press Summerfest (June 5-6). And honestly, it’s kind of a mixed bag, for me. First and foremost, they’ve now […]

Damn. I saw the horrible, terrible news yesterday, and I’m still somewhat stunned: Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse is dead, after shooting himself outside a friend’s home. I’m reeling, awash in sadness and anger at the same time; sad that Linkous thought things were so bad that he had to step off the stage permanently and […]
