I’m not an art guy. I tried to be, back when I was a kid, but it turned out I was pretty mediocre at it, so it fell by the wayside. And in terms of speaking about art, I’m largely clueless — I feel like I just don’t have the vocabulary for that, in a lot of ways…

Hey, folks — back again with Part 2 of SCR‘s little rundown/preview things of as many randomly-selected musicians and bands performing this weekend —Saturday, December 17th & Sunday, December 18th — at Day for Night as we can cram in in the short time we’ve got left…

Okay, so we’re hard at work on our whole set of previews/rundowns for Day for Night, which starts up tonight, Friday, December 16th, with its VIP-only kick-off party and runs through Saturday & Sunday, December 17th & 18th, but we couldn’t let this slip completely by…

Alright, people — Day for Night is very, very nearly upon us, with only a day or two until it explodes into new venue Post HTX (aka the former Barbara Jordan Post Office in downtown Houston). And I’ll admit to having some mixed feelings about it; on the one hand, I’m psyched…

Alright, folks — I had planned to post about this yesterday…and then there was that torrential downpour that hit most of the city last night, and, um, I was afraid I’d put up the post and then immediately have to say, “welp, sorry, it’s been canceled due to the weather.” So I chickened out, I’ll admit it…

Y’know, after last year, I was afraid Something Wicked was done for; when they had to cancel due to the torrential downpour hitting the area, people were pissed…

And here we are, again, with the second of this weekend’s several festivals, this time way up north of town in Old Town Spring. It’s a brand new one called End Hip End It (the joke of which I just got), and unlike most of our local music festivals…

Okey-dokey — back on this horse, sort of, and since I’ve already been running later than I’d like to be, I’m now at least trying to get ahead. It is one hell of a busy weekend, music-wise, and some of it we’ve already talked about, but there’s plenty more we’d recommend…

Oh, man. I got a bit wrapped up in the countdown to Yes, Indeed! 2016 last week, so I let this one slip a bit, and that means that unless you’ve been sailing a raft across the ocean for seven or eight days now — or, alternately, hate music and/or joy, in which case I don’t have a clue how you’re reading this — you know that the organizers of Day for Night, FPSF‘s quasi-sister festival in the winter months, released the official lineup…

Today’s the day, folks — the official lineup for brand-new music (and other stuff) festival Day for Night, which takes place at Silver Street Studios on December 19th & 20th, was just released a short while ago. And yeah, it’s pretty damn impressive, both in scope and diversity…

I have an admission to make: I yell at the TV every weekend. No, not during Fox and Friends (well, okay, I do that sometimes, too), but during Texas Music Scene, or rather, right at the beginning of Texas Music Scene…

With the majority of Houston’s social circles out and about, seeing and being seen wearing white at White Linen Night in The Heights, it wasn’t a huge surprise that REI Summer Fest became the ultimate (nearly-) private party of the weekend. For a little background, “REI” stands for “Real Estate Investing.” During the day, the attendees went to what I assume was…

Alright, people — remember just the other day when I talked about Houston’s current bounty of music-type festivals? Well, another’s happening this weekend, and it promises to be pretty spectacular. This is the third (I think?) year of the Houston edition of the Untapped Festival…

This is kind of turning into a weird musical season here in H-town. It may be my imagination, but it seems like there’s a whole crop of new/new-ish music festivals that’ve popped up these past couple of years (since the success of FPSF, maybe?), from Untapped to Something Wicked to No Limits CityFest to Whatever. And y’know what? That’s awesome…

Yeah, yeah; I know, I still need to get my damn writeup online about this year’s awesome FPSF (soon, I swear by all that is good and holy…), but while you’re waiting for that — as I’m sure you all are, with bated breath and everything — there’s been some badass-sounding news this week about another music festival, which will be having its inaugural run August 9th and 10th…

From tomorrow, Saturday, November 23rd, through Sunday, November 24th, downtown Houston will once again play host to one of the coolest, most unique street festivals this city sees out of a fairly big pile of events each year…

On the road again today — Sat., March 16th — but I’ll try to get a quick post in while the wife oh-so/kindly drives (ah, smartphones & wives are awesome…). Here we go: Eric Clapton/The Wallflowers @ Toyota Center What can I say? I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t go see Clapton if […]

Not positive if it’s just me or what, but it sure feels like Houston’s been the recipient of a whole lot of excellent, high-flying electronic/dance/EDM/whatever the kids call it these days music lately. The now-happily-recurring Identity Festival aside, I’d guess it has a lot to do with…

There are some things you should probably know going in. Terrastock 4 is, unsurprisingly, the fourth in a series of concerts. This and the previous three-day festivals (held in Rhode Island, England, and California) were all benefits for a fanzine called Ptolemaic Terrascope. Its focus is, as with any fanzine, whatever the editor likes, but can generally be condensed into the phrase “psychedelic music” without too much loss of intention…
