Marc with Tanya Donelly (formerly of Belly, Throwing Muses
and the Breeders)
At Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston, Massachusetts
October 26, 2001
Tanya was something of a good-sized crush of mine when I was in college and listening to Belly's Star a whole bunch; I still have a full-page Gap ad from Rolling Stone c. 1993 in which her knees are gorgeous. Anyway, she capped off a series of free lunchtime concerts at Faneuil Hall, playing a disappointing version of "Slow Dog" and an utterly gorgeous version of "Pretty Deep." I asked her to sign my copy of Sun, a 5-track promo-only Belly disc, and she asked what the hell it was (apparently it was sent out without the band's knowledge). She did, however, get excited when she saw the French-language version of "Judas My Heart," since she had no idea what had happened to it and hadn't been able to get a copy for herself. I gave her the email of Space City Rock (and a copy of the magazine) and suggested that I'd be glad to give her a copy in exchange for an interview. I still haven't heard back. Pointless side note (and one which didn't click until afterwards): I've seen her perform three times in three different configurations (Throwing Muses, Belly, solo artist).
