Marc with Rosanne Cash
At the Somerville Theatre, Somerville, Massachusetts
June 21, 2003
As much as I feel somewhat reluctant to criticize a a total stranger that I'll never meet again and who did me a favor to begin with, I ask you: how hard is it to fit my entire freakin' head in the frame? Ultimately, it doesn't matter, since Rosanne was so friendly with her fans that I don't see my lack of a scalp for more than a split second. Rosanne gave a shortish concert, only about 75 minutes, but she started her encore with a version of Bob Dylan's "License To Kill" (interspersed with the bridge from John Lennon's "God") that was so jaw-dropping that the first two words out of my mouth when she finished were "Holy shit." She failed, however, to ease my mind on an issue that's been driving me nuts for a solid decade now: when asked what tuning her husband/guitarist John Leventhal used for "Seventh Avenue," her response was, "Oh, don't ask me. He changes it every time."
