Marc with (most of) Andy Chase, Adam Schlesinger and Dominique Durand of Ivy

Why I hate it when others try to use my camera, Exhibit C. Ivy was playing a free in-store show in preparation for their actual gig at Lilli's later that night, so I went to see them as a sort-of fan who kinda liked Apartment Life. And I'll be damned if the free show didn't do what everybody always hopes they will: it intrigued me enough to go see them at Lilli's, which stunned me enough (who knew that they were such a great live band?) to buy their new Long Distance, which made my 2001 Top Ten immediately. In any event, I got to shake the hand of Adam Schlesinger, also a member of Fountains of Wayne (who I liked more right up until Ivy played "While We're In Love" that night) and the guy who wrote "That Thing You Do!" and the only song of any merit from Josie and the Pussycats ("Pretend To Be Nice"). He's the one in the middle, and he should have won a damn Oscar.
