Marc with Bob Barker (longtime host of The Price Is Right)
At Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts
October 23, 2000

Bob Barker was at Harvard to give a talk entitled "The Impact of Game Shows on American Pop Culture," which would have been more accurately titled "The History of Bob Barker." Nobody in the packed auditorium minded; I'd never really realized how much folks love that neutering fool. My question (spurred on my memories triggered by the video clips from over the years): why does he always use the long, thin microphone? The answer: since the show has such a strong audience-participation factor, they wanted something that would obscure the contestants' faces as little as possible. Makes sense.
