As Welch and Rawlings gear up for a whole mess of shows at
the Station Inn over the next two months, let us now put in a word of
praise
for David Rawlings, whose contributions place him on equal footing with
Welch
yet whose name is inexplicably missing from the covers of their albums.
He
cowrites their songs. He produces their albums. His guitar heroics are
stellar
yet subtle and tasteful. His harmony vocals are so indistinguishable in
tone
and timbre from Welch that I thought she had simply double-tracked them
until I
saw them live. Welch deserves every accolade she gets, but it’s onstage
that
she gets to show off her secret weapon. – Marc
