The saddest part of a broken heart isn't the ending so much as the start

Let It Die (Cherry Tree/Interscope)
by Marc Hirsh

originally published in Amplifier, July-August 2005

A melancholy swirl of acoustic guitars, adult heartbreak and hushed singing, Let It Die showcases an artist who might not be prolific (five songs are covers, four others were coauthored) but who compensates by making each moment count. The clear-eyed title track is one of the saddest songs you’ll ever hear. That one, she wrote all by herself.
