Today: Foamhenge Arises at Karbach, with Blue Oyster Cult, The Sword, & More
Wow. It’s been a crazy-ass weekend, with a whole lot of good stuff going on, but this damn near takes the cake. See, today (Sunday, November 5th) up at the Karbach Brewing Co. is the first-ever Foamhenge, starting at around 1:30PM (that’s when the doors open, anyway; the music starts at 2:30) and going ’til I have no idea when.
Why is this a big deal? Well, just look at the flyer over there — not only are awesome-ass Austin metal dudes The Sword playing (and they’re one of the best metal bands I’ve seen live, hands down), presumably doing stuff off latest album High Country (which I like a whole lot more than 2012’s Apocryphon, I’ve gotta say), but so are classic-rock/proto-metal legends Blue Oyster Cult.
Yes, that Blue Oyster Cult, the guys behind “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” — which I will freely admit still makes me see the long intro shot to The Stand every time I hear it. Now, this isn’t all the original members, obviously, since the band’s been around since the ’60s, but it’s two of ’em, at least, plus some not-too-recent replacements. So if you’re a BOC fan, well, this is a good deal, especially since tickets are only $20.
There’s also British rocker Barns Courtney and Dallas AC/DC tribute act Back In Black, so get there early for those, alright? I don’t know the latter at all, but I’ve heard good things about the former.
Oh, and for those whose tastes are strictly about music, yes, there will be beer. Karbach says they’ll be “tapping some special casks,” which sounds weirdly dirty to my ears, and providing barrel-aged brews to get the celebration going. The Karbach Biergarten is a fun place to begin with, but with awesome bands and beers, well, it’s pretty hard to top.
