This Afternoon: The Caroline Sessions Rise Again (v.5.3!), for Music Therapy Center of Houston
Yes, the Caroline Collective may be dead and gone — long may she wave — but The Caroline Sessions ride again today, Sunday, May 25th. Earlier this year, organizer Tom Paynter resurrected the eponymous music series that used to be hosted at the co-working space, and that’s a very cool thing, because the shows were/are a great regular daytime showcase for some of Houston’s best musicians.
And this afternoon’s no exception; heck, it’s one of the best lineups I’ve seen from the Caroline Sessions folks, with progressive-minded political indie-popsters {The Wheel Workers}, awesomely windswept drone-rock gang {Jealous Creatures} (whose frontwoman, Sarah Hirsch, I owe an immense debt of gratitude for snagging me a pair of Comicpalooza wristbands yesterday; thanks again, Sarah!), and fellow local friends {La Sien} (who I still need to hear more of, but my kids love their artwork) and {Hear You Me}.
The whole thing’s free, but it’s also a benefit for The Music Therapy Center of Houston, a truly great local nonprofit that helps kids through music, so please-please-please donate as much as you can while you rock out for free. There’s also free BBQ, a potluck, and beer from Saint Arnold, Karbach, and Buffalo Bayou…
The event’s happening from 12PM to 5PM, and it’s up at someplace I’ve never heard of called White Space HOU — 2914 White Oak. Get on out on this gorgeous, not-too-hot Houston day, listen to some excellent music, and help out a worthwhile cause, alright?
