Bad News Time: Norma Zenteno Passes Away (But Benefit Show Still On)
Damn, damn, damn. What a shame, really & truly… In case you hadn’t already heard, the {Houston Press} broke the news the other day that legendary local musician Norma Zenteno unfortunately lost her fight with cancer and left us.
Which is pretty mind-boggling, honestly — I can remember first hearing about Zenteno when I moved here to go to college, and that was a long damn time ago. She was already a fixture on stages all ’round town, even then, and I guess I just assumed she’d be around forever, still playing, still smiling.
But that didn’t happen, and practically on the eve of a benefit show set up to help with her medical bills from the treatment, she’s gone. Damn.
Apparently the benefit will still go on tonight (Sunday, February 24th), and I’m sure Zenteno’s family will still need help with her expenses for a while to come.
Head on up to SRO’s Sports Bar & Cafe (444 Northwest Mall) today between 3-8PM, help a family in need, and remember a truly awesome musician who’s gone too soon.
