This Weekend: Help Out Stevie & Tara (And Hear Good Music, Too)
Okay, so there’s a lot coming up this weekend — I’m early on the rundown, I know, but trust me, there’s a good-sized pile of good stuff happening. That said, some of it hits a little harder, at least in my case.
I’m thinking in particular of the show over at Walter’s this coming Saturday, January 19th; it’s a benefit show for a pair of young ladies, Stevie, who needed a new kidney, and Tara, who gave it to her. Which is awesome and heartwarming, and I’m extremely glad they both survived and are doing well, but hey, transplants like this don’t just magically happen for free. Both women are now stuck with heavy-duty medical bills.
Hence…well, this show. Sometime SCR contributor Tom Koenig is the organizer for the event, and he’s gathered together some very cool musicians & bands to help raise funds for Stevie & Tara’s dual pile of hospital voices, including the awesomely downbeat, folk-melancholia of {Second Lovers}, quirky indie-/alt-rock dudes {Satin Hooks}, and the ever-irrepressible duo of GoREALah Soul, aka (You)genious and DJ Juan 1, who are utterly freaking nuts.
It’s a damn good lineup, I have to say, made better by the fact that it’s for a good, good cause. There’ll also be some kind of an auction as part of the money-raising, too, but I’m not sure how that’ll work.
So, mark it on your calendars, then go help out. These ladies may be okay medically, but it’s far too easy for surgery like this to bankrupt you; it happens a lot more frequently than you’d think…
The auction is (You)genious. He’s allowing people to kiss him for 5 bucks from 11:15 till 11:30. Kissing for the cause, as he put it. All proceeds go to the girls. Dude is awesome!

Yes. Honestly. haha, he’s a cool cat with 15 minutes to spare. AND, he had his flu shot so he’s good to go. if you can make it out it will be worth it! hell, for 5 bucks more you can make out with Yougenious too!!
