Damn Shame: Benefit/Memorial Show Tonight for Local Punk/Activist Chuck Schambaugh
I never got to meet Chuck Schambaugh, sadly, but it kills me even still to hear about somebody so young (he was only 25) leaving so suddenly, especially when they’re a hardworking, heart-in-the-right-place part of the scene here.
Before he passed away barely a week ago (on July 3rd), Schambaugh was the singer for local punks {Bomraw}, and I think he also played drums with crusties {Vivisect}, although I’m not too sure about that one…
He did stuff with the whole Sedition Books gang, back before that folded and/or got subsumed into the new East Side Social Center, and he also booked a bunch of punk shows here in town as part of the DOWN//PUNX//HTOWN crew, to boot.
Chuck’s Sedition/ESSC friends have set up a benefit/memorial show for him, to help his family with the funeral expenses; that’ll be tonight, Monday, July 9th, up at (naturally) the East Side Social Center, which is at 4202 Canal St., where the Vinyl Junkie storefront was until very recently.
There’s a $5 suggested donation for the benefit, although you can obviously give more if you want to, and it’ll run from 7-11:30PM tonight (they have to shut relatively early or the cops get called, apparently; this is a venue smack-dab in a residential neighborhood in the East End). A bunch of cool bands are playing — here’s the latest schedule I’ve seen:
- {Alimanas} — 8:00-8:20PM
Turbokrieg — 8:30-8:50PM
Adam and the Ancient Gods — 9:00-9:20PM
Damaging Noise (reunion!) — 9:30-9:50PM
{Dissent} — 10:00-10:20PM
{Abduktion} — 10:30-10:50PM
{Bomraw} — 11:00-11:20PM
Go, have fun, help out, and remember a young guy gone too damn soon.
Thank you for this.
