Rocks Off Revamps Its Concert Calendar
Yep, I missed some things while I was out of town, and some of ’em I’m only just now getting caught up on. Like this announcement from the Houston Press/{Rocks Off} gang about their revamped, rejuvenated, extremely cool Concert Calendar.
It may sound a little weird coming from yours truly, but hell, the previous show-listing thing the HP site used always seemed clunky and hard to use, at least to me. I’m glad to see the new Calendar, and I’m liking it a whole lot better than the old one. Kudos, y’all!
Now, I’ll admit that seeing the swanky new setup’s got me wondering over here if it might be time to step back from the big ol’ (manually updated) pile of shows that is SCR‘s own Shows List. I mean, first there was the {Do713} listings, and the ones over on the 29-95.com site — and yes, I also like those guys/gals a heck of a lot — and now the HP‘s…
Eh, I dunno. For now, at least, the trusty Shows List will trudge on, progress be damned/ignored. Maybe one of these days we’ll get smart & easily-updateable over here, too, or just plain hand it off to the (relative) newcomers, but ’til then SCR will raise a glass to the worthy competition (not that we’re real formidable competition, mind you) and keep on rolling. And hey, now you’ve got more places than ever to check for upcoming shows, and that’s never a bad thing, right?
What’s funny is that despite everything, your very simple straight listing calendar is still the best calendar out there. There are a hella lot of holes in all theother options out there that you somehow seem to capture. I dunno how you do it but I have always found this to be the best calendar out there and I can tell you that my work at FPH each week would be a hell of a lot harder without your work here as a starting point.
Your calendar is an invaluable resource.

Yeah I totally agree with Ramon. It’s super easy to read on an iphone and copy/paste info from. I read from it every two weeks on the Local Show, as JR is probably aware since he’s the only person that listens.
