Amy Dalley, Coming Out of the Pain

Amy Dalley, Coming Out of the Pain

Once in a while I’ll come across a particular kind of album where I can admit that despite my overall not liking of a specific genre, this one could be the exception. Coming Out of the Pain, however, is not that exception. Amy Dalley is a good ol’ country girl and, well, my country playlist only extends so far (it goes really only from Johnny Cash to George Jones to Robert Ellis to Willie Nelson and friends).

This isn’t what I would call a bad piece of music, however. If you’re a fan of country music, then you would probably enjoy this, especially if you like the female country voices. It has similarities to Reba and all of them, but I don’t know if it’s quite mainstream enough to be like Taylor Swift. Maybe it is, I don’t know. I’m not really sure what makes mainstream country music, aside from Toby Keith and whoever else.

To say something good about this album, aside from it being good for a genre I don’t really like, the songs all seem to be very heartfelt and honest, which is good for this type of music. Also, the opening track, “Peace Sign,” should be a crowd pleaser, with bumper sticker-esque lines like “You put the ‘fu’ in ‘fun,'” and “I’m waving goodbye with just one finger short of a peace sign.” Yes, these are things I get, since I spend entirely too much time on Facebook. In fact, “Peace Sign” could become a viral rage. But I still won’t be cranking this CD out of any of my many speakers any time again.
