Tonight: Spend Your Valentine’s Day with The Manichean & Ben Godfrey
A bit late, I know — it’s been a bit of a hectic couple of days, sorry — but hey, if you don’t already have plans for your Valentine’s Day (Tues., February 14th) evening, I’d heartily recommend heading on up to La Carafe in downtown, where strange, cool, intriguing drama-rockers {The Manichean} will be headlining a free show for the of-agers in honor of the day.
The band will reportedly be playing new songs from forthcoming album Lovers, which is very cool in itself, and they’ve picked a hell of an atmospheric location; La Carafe is a neat, neat place, whether you’re into the whole “haunted bar” thing or not. It’s a funky old venue, one the band fits pretty much perfectly. (I think they’ll be playing as a stripped-down, acoustic version of the band, btw, since the bar’s not a big place…)
To make things even cooler, they’re playing alongside Ben Godfrey, aka the frontman of excellent, excellent murk-folksters {listenlisten}, plus sprawling, scraping noise-rock deal {Dead Roses} (who I haven’t ever gotten to see, sadly), and cool-sounding singer/songwriter {Frank Freeman}. Freeman replaces the previously-scheduled {Chase Hamblin}, who had to regretfully bow out due to voice issues in recent days.
So, there you go — head on downtown and hang out from 8PM to 2AM.
