Bad, Bad News: Houston Press Music Editor Chris Gray in Coma
I can’t even believe I’m typing this right now. Just got word from various folks that Chris Gray, aka “Rocks Off Sr.,” the much-loved, hardworking, cool-dude Music Editor over at the {Houston Press} is currently in a medically-induced coma at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Apparently he had a heart attack, of all things, sometime this morning, and is in bad shape.
Anybody who does anything related to music in this town knows Chris, at least by name, and beyond the fact that he’s a great, genuinely nice guy and an excellent writer, we all — and I do mean “all” — owe him a huge debt for helping to make the scene in Houston what it is today. Hell, the guy gave me all but one of the actual paying music-writing gigs I’ve ever gotten, and I’m forever indebted to him for that.
The thoughts of everybody over here at SCR are with Chris right now, and we’ll be keeping fingers crossed that he pulls through & everything’s okay. Hang in there, man — we need you down here.
I knew Chris from his Auschron days. I hope he gets better soon! This is sad news indeed.
[…] because I can’t help but be thinking about the Houston Press‘s Chris Gray, who’s reportedly currently in the hospital and in a coma. Fellow HP-er Craig Hlavaty‘ll be dedicating his “Happy Hahlhloween” show this […]
Thank you for getting the word out there, Jeremy. Just caught wind of this. Terrible news. Please, everyone, send good thoughts his way.
Me too, new Chris from when he lived in Austin. He is such a genuine, nice guy. I hope he pulls through.
