hasHBrown Releases First Track From Break Something
I’d originally planned on cramming a whole bunch of H-town hip-hop downloads and whatnot all into one big-ass post, trying to gather together all the excellent, mostly-free releases I’ve seen the past couple of months, but then I got brand-new track “The Death Penalty” from local phenom hasHBrown in the email this afternoon, and when I put it on…holy shit, I can’t wait ’til I have time to type up all the other stuff.
It’s the first track from HB’s forthcoming full-length, Break Something (due out as a free download, apparently, November 30th), and it’s pretty damn awesome. So much so, in fact, that I’ve listened to it three times in a row, and I’m nowhere near tired of it yet. Over an excellent beat by YPhoenix, complete with sampled soul calls and a great bank of horns, he rages defiant and confident, referencing The Lion King and The Bourne Identity in practically the same breath, and the end result is like some crazy crossbreed between Blueprint and Ghostface Killah.
Check it out right here:
hasHBrown – “The Death Penalty”
If this is what all of Break Something sounds like, it’s going to be insane, seriously. (And that’s a damn cool cover, btw, to boot.)
[…] Not a clue on the headliners, sorry, but hot damn, I am digging hasHBrown lately, esp. with the first few tracks he’s been dropping from forthcoming album Break Something. “The Death Penalty” has been on infinite repeat […]
