A Damn Shame: Rest In Peace, Kathy Johnston of Mydolls
When bad news hits, it all hits at once, it seems like, and this week’s no exception; got word the other day that {Mydolls}/{No Love Less} guitarist Kathy Johnston, passed away this past Saturday, Sept. 4th, having battled leukemia since she was diagnosed back in 2004. I was never fortunate enough to meet Ms. Johnston, but I’ve got a lot of respect for her band and am told she was one hell of a guitarist. My heart goes out to her fellow Mydolls and partner Dianna Ray for their loss.
I found out about this, btw, via {Dead Roses}‘ Kirston Otis, who dedicated this Tuesday’s {KTRU} Local Show to the memory of Johnston & to Mydolls in general. Kirston’s tribute starts with Willie Nelson‘s “Can I Sleep in Your Arms”, and he talks a bit about Johnston after the song ends and then queues up Mydolls’ “For Her”; it’s a pretty touching thing, at least to me.
Check out the recording of the whole show over here:
For friends, family, fans, & fellow musicians, {Ozone City Outrage} reports that there’ll be a memorial service for Johnston this next Saturday at The Lambda Center on Clay from 2-3PM.
A real shame. One of the first Houston punk bands I ever heard. RIP.
