Giveaway Time: ’80s Pop Fans, This One’s For You
If you haven’t been paying attention to the ever-wonderful shows list — as, apparently, at least one person hasn’t; somebody just told me we hadn’t updated it in more than a year, which is a little crazy considering it’s updated multiple times each day, most days — you may not have noticed the show going on tonight (Thurs., August 25th) up at Stereo Live.
For my part, I can tell you I sure as hell did. They’re calling it “Lost 80’s Live,” and lo and behold, look who’s playing: A Flock of Seagulls (who had to bail on their last Houston date, so it’s nice to see them back), When in Rome(!), Animotion, and Christopher Anton, ex- of Information Society. Holy freaking bad hair and synth-pop, Batman.
I can’t claim to’ve ever been a big Seagulls fan, personally, but hey, I like “I Ran” as much as the next ’80s kid, and I can’t help but feel a little warm & fuzzy inside thinking about these bands. And hey, When in Rome! How in the hell are they even still around? “The Promise” still makes me smile like an idiot, I’ll admit it…
(For the true fanboys, this is apparently the “Farrington/Mann” UK version of When in Rome playing tonight, not the Michael Floreale version. Apparently there’s some bad blood there, but I dunno the details.)
Anyway, we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away for tonight’s show, and we’ve got to do it quick-fast — if you want ’em, send email to “contests” at “spacecityrock dot com” or Twitter-message @spacecityrock asap and let us know. (Make sure you include the words “A Flock of Seagulls” in there somewhere, or we’ll be confused.)
