Robin Heads North; Spencer Gets Hitched (Um, Back in March)
Got some personal-type news to share about a couple of the cool folks over here at SCR; it’s good news, don’t worry…
First off, we here at SCR HQ are both bummed & proud to bid a fond farewell to indefatigable writer Robin Babb; in just a week or so, she’ll be heading on up to the windy wilds of Chicago to attend Shimer College (a “great books” college, which I honestly didn’t think existed anymore; neat!).
Obviously, this a very, very cool thing for her, and we’re clapping like mad over here, but the scene here in town’ll definitely be dimmer for her absence. Over the course of the past three or so years, Robin’s been like a whirlwind of music/arts activity — not only did she fearlessly join our weird, mostly-detached little crew, but she’s also worked tirelessly over at Culture Pilot, Do713.com, and the Caroline Collective. Seriously, she’s been everywhere.
And in the middle of all that, she’s turned out to be a damn good writer, the kind I’d love to see more of ’round here. She’s not only happily written about whatever I’ve handed her, but she’s gone off on her own and come back with interviews and whatnot I never would’ve thought of doing, all while dealing with my innate half-assed-ness. And yeah, that’s a very good thing. She’s good people.
I’ve got my fingers crossed she’ll still be able to contribute from up in Chicago (heck, our longest-running writer, Henry Mayer, has lived up there literally since this site started), but y’know, school’s school, so… More than anything, I want to wish her the best of luck up there and say a heartfelt “thanks!” for all her hard work. You’ll be missed, Ms. Robin.
For the second part of this post, I’d first like to cringe and smack myself for being late-late-late on mentioning this one… Way, waaaay back in early March of this year, SCR writer, bowtie revivalist, and former FILTER intern (who’s now working as a real-live journalist up in Provo these days) Spencer Flanagan tied the knot with true-love Carly up in the Pacific NW.
Sorry for the delay, Spencer, but I wanted to send a belated-yet-heartfelt congratulatory wave up your way; hope everything’s going great up in Utah!
That’s all I’ve got for now, folks, but before signing off (and heading to bed), I have to say that I’m always amazed at the awesomely cool people I’ve been lucky enough to work with on this here site. This deal wouldn’t exist without every one of ’em, and I’m continually humbled by all their hard work. To any SCR contributors reading this: you’re awesome, and I owe you, big-time.
:) Thank you so much Jeremy! You are the sweetest. I’ve been thrilled to work with you, and I definitely intend to send stuff your way from the big cold North every once in a while. Hold down the city while I’m away!
Will do! :)
