Helping Out a Family in Need (with Jealous Creatures), This Weekend
Got word a few days ago from the folks in {Jealous Creatures} about a worthwhile-sounding benefit this coming weekend, and I wanted to mention it here to help spread the word a little bit further than it might otherwise go, at least.
Back on March 11th, Melissa Owen Pratorius, the cousin of Creatures bassist Lisa Gallo Roth, was killed in a car wreck. Her two children, Andrew and Danielle, survived but are obviously having a rough time of it; I can’t even imagine what it’s like for those two kids. Beyond losing their mom, they were also apparently injured in the wreck themselves and are still recovering — I don’t know the extent of their injuries, but medical expenses are never cheap.
Some kind-hearted folks have come forward and are trying their best to help out in any way they can, however, and they’ve organized a fundraiser for this coming Saturday, May 14th, out in Katy, at a place called Bryant’s Ice House (which I’ve never heard of, but I’m not real familiar with Katy to begin with). It starts at 2PM and runs ’til midnight or so, it looks like.
Jealous Creatures will be playing, starting around 2:30PM, along with a band I’ve only ever heard of (but who I need to check out) called {The Horse and Dagger} and another I don’t know at all called {The Silverado Band}. Well worth checking out, definitely, especially given the cause.
There’s reportedly going to be an auction, the proceeds from which will benefit the Pratorius family, so if you’d be interested in contributing, let the organizers know — check out the event page for details. If you can’t make it out, you can also donate directly to the family through Amegy Bank; direct any donations to the Melissa Owen Pratorious Memorial Fund.
Help these people out, folks.
Thank you so much for getting the word out!
