Sign Up to Fight, Right Now: Enter the Texas Music Festival Battle of the Bands
UPDATE: Looks like I posted just a wee bit too soon… Just got word that the deadline for submitting your band’s music to the Battle of the Bands below has been extended out to April 20th. So if you can’t get your stuff in by the end of tonight, heck, you’re in luck…
Short, short notice, I know, but we got sent a note earlier this week about a cool-sounding Battle of the Bands deal that’ll be taking place at this year’s Texas Music Festival & Village Fair (it’s the 57th festival, apparently, which is a little mind-blowing).
Basically, the idea is that six local H-town-area bands will be picked to battle it out on the third day of the fest (Sun., May 8th), each playing their three best songs for the audience & a panel of judges. I’m not entirely clear as to what the grand prize actually is, but I’m told it includes studio time and works out to a value of roughly $1500 — nothing to sneeze at, I’d say.
To be in the running, you’ve got to enter the competition before midnight on Sunday, April 17th Sunday, April 10th (i.e., um, today) — the form’s over on the Website. The judges will pick 5 of the 6 competing bands, with the sixth being picked via a fan-vote-type thing online that’ll run from Mon., April 18th through Tues., April 19th.
As for the Battle itself, it’ll be free & open to all, and the Texas Music Festival takes place down in League City at Walter Hall Park. The fest seems to lean pretty heavily towards country in its scheduled lineup (Roger Creager headlines one night, Kevin Fowler the other) but hell, you never know what’ll happen, right?
There you go — now go & get your band in the running ASAP…
