Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: Kings of Leon + Tax the Wolf + Featherface + Poor Dumb Bastards + Born Liars + Cavernous + More

UPDATE: Well, it appears {Monoceros} had to drop off the Mango’s show tonight; {Sunrise and Ammunition} has taken their spot on the bill…

Saturday, April 2nd, and even though there was plenty of cool stuff going on last night, it kinda feels like the weekend’s just getting started, honestly… Lots and lots going on this evening, y’all.

First & possibly foremost to a lot of folks is the continuing Big Dance Concert Series thing at Discovery Green, which this afternoon/evening features Vallejo, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Panic! At the Disco, and, best of all, Kings of Leon, all for free. Let’s just hope the rain holds off… Anyway, see over here for some more details.

Heading out from there, there’s the Chris Cornell show at the House of Blues, which, um, you’re probably not going to, since it’s been sold out for a while now. But never fear, ’cause there’s plenty more…

Up in downtown at Super Happy Fun Land, {The Dead Rabbits} and Days N Daze are both playing, and I’ve liked what I’ve heard from both of them. Over in Midtown, The Mink‘s got a very cool show tonight, with awesome Latin-prog-rock dudes {Tax the Wolf}, quirky prog-popsters {Featherface} (whom I really and truly love, these days), and {The Live Lights}, about whom I’ve heard many good things.

Fitz has a nice double-bill tonight, with the {Poor Dumb Bastards}20th anniversary show on one floor and the ASYLUM party on the other — the latter includes {Dead Roses} & the excellent {Art Institute}, for two.

Montrose is busy today, too; there’s the Menil Community Arts Festival/Indie Book Fest, which I already talked about over here, the very neat-sounding Concert in the Mall on the University of St. Thomas campus; that’ll feature {Finnegan}, {Fat Tony} — woo! — and {Tax the Wolf}, in their first(?) appearance of the day.

The latter two are pretty much during the day, btw, which is good for those among us with midgets who have to go to bed early; similarly, drag ’em on out to Cactus at 5PM to stare in wide-mouth amazement as the {Born Liars} tear the place up.

And I can’t forget tonight’s show at Mango’s — the awesomely heavy {Omotai} are playing, alongside instro-prog metal guys {Cavernous} (who seriously bowled me over when I saw them last month), and {Sunrise and Ammunition}{Monoceros}, who I’d thought were long dead & gone. Oh, and it’s the CD release for {Machinotaur}, who I’ve never heard but who sound like they’d be badass. Heavy-ass shit.
