“When We Ruled H-Town” Showcase & Preview, Tonight
Sadly, I’m not in town for this, but it sounds really damn cool, & I didn’t want to miss mentioning it…
I’d heard rumblings for a while now about somebody making a documentary all about that heady golden age of H-town music back in the early ’90s, but I could never find much about the damn thing beyond the name, the quasi-tongue-in-cheek When We Ruled H-Town.
At least not til I was sent this press release — I don’t normally like to post releases verbatim like this, but in this case, they say it better than I can, so here you go:
WHEN WE RULED H-TOWN
A HOUSTON MUSIC DOCUMENTARY FILM BY J. SCHNEIDER & BRENT HIMES
Presenting an advanced PREVIEW screening of the Documentary and
RE-UNION show at FITZGERALD’S Saturday February 5th at 8pm
Featuring:
TREAD, SPUNK, MONSTER SOUP, MANHOLE,
DINOSAUR SALAD, TASTE OF GARLIC and HOSS.
When We Ruled H-Town takes an objective yet nostalgic look at a not-so-distant past when a spark of energy, a deep pool of creativity, and insatiable curiosity brought musicians, artists, fans and an entire city together for a brief moment of greatness.
We invite everyone who has ever been a fan of the thriving Houston music scene of the 90’s to be a part of this great event. Join us to catch a sneak preview of the upcoming documentary and witness the reunion of several local bands that were prominent during this era.
Other than a few one-off shows, most of these bands have not performed since the 1990’s—WHEN WE RULED H-TOWN. Manhole will be performing for the first time in 13 years with original members. Monster Soup returns to Fitz after a sold out show on Christmas night 2010 – their first show in 12 years. The film producers and members of Taste of Garlic are back together again after a full house performance at Rudyard’s in 2009 that sparked the idea to make this documentary. Advance tickets and early arrival is suggested. Bands will draw straws on the night of the show to decide order of appearance.
There you go; get on out & immerse yourself in some musical history…
A pal of mine linked me this on twitter. I really like the site, this post is easily my favorite, thanks!
