Roky Moon & BOLT Make an Album All in One Shot, Monday at SugarHill
Niiiiice. Just got word that retro-glam-rock heroes Roky Moon & BOLT will be invading SugarHill Studios this coming Monday, January 17th, as new-ish record label ZenHill Records (in which SugarHill’s Dan Workman is a partner, along with Zenfilm‘s W. Ross Wells) inaugural “One Day Records” session. The band will blaze through a whole damn album, all in one day, which will then be released by ZenHill not too long after, I’m assuming.
Of course, this isn’t a new idea, by any means — bands do stuff like this pretty regularly, cranking through a full-length album in a day and slamming it out there. Still, I like the old-school vibe of it, particularly with a band like BOLT, which is a little more complex than a three-chord punk band (not that I don’t like those, but y’know); cramming that whole gang into a studio and forcing ’em to come up with something that’s hopefully brilliant all in one go is very cool.
And since Zenfilm’s Wells is involved in this deal, I’m betting that means this thing will be filmed, as well, either whole or in part, and that makes it pretty damn neat, in my book. Call me a geeky fanboy if you want, but I’d seriously love a DVD of Roky Moon & BOLT recording (although it’d be cooler if there was a Some Kind of Monster-esque intra-band drama vibe, just for fun, and the BOLT folks are much too friendly & cool for that).
