Yr. Weekend: Venomous Maximus + Nitzer Ebb + Roky Moon & BOLT (reviewed!) + The Posies + Featherface + More
Hey, all — one insane weekend coming up (yeesh…don’t y’all band people go visit your families & whatnot for Thanksgiving?), but unfortunately, I’m kinda short on time to talk about it all, so I’m going to have to run through the next three days (Fri.-Sun., November 26th-28th) real quickly.
Some highlights, though: tomorrow’s massive {Venomous Maximus} (not to be confused with {Venomous Supremacy}, mind you; I keep doing that) 7″ release show is going to be flat-out amazing, with appearances by {Ghost Town Electric}, {Hell City Kings}, {The American Heist}, & {Omotai}, among others.
Beyond that, there’s the Nitzer Ebb show at Numbers (also on Friday), which is a pretty cool thing, since local boys {//TENSE//} got tapped to open for the electro-industrial icons on their whole U.S. tour. Hats off to the //TENSE// guys; that’s a hell of a feather in their cap, and I’d say they deserve it.
On Saturday, it’s even harder to pick a favorite, seriously. There’s the Roky Moon & BOLT CD release show at The Mink, which features about half of my favorite bands in town right now, like {The Tontons}, {The Mathletes}, and {Giant Princess} (and the BOLT folks themselves — duh). I’ve been listening to the band’s eponymous full-length quite a lot lately, btw, and it’s freaking great; full review over here.
At the same time, there’s also The Posies & Brendan Benson, both of whom I like a hell of a lot; the two bands together make for a gorgeous pile of sweet, sweet power-pop, all shiny & bright. And hey, there’s also the official EP release for {Featherface}, which is darn good (and reviewed here). Oh, and {Arthur Yoria}‘s second-to-last show in Houston is the same night.
(Sadly, it appears that Taylor Dayne show at the Arena Theatre has been cancelled. This makes me more bummed than I’d thought it would, honestly.)
Anyway, here’s the full list; have fun!:
