Bad News: Arthur Yoria Leaving H-Town for NYC
Ah, damn. Thanksgiving’s supposed to be a time for good news, not bombs dropped off-handedly like this…
Got word earlier today that Houston-/Austin-dwelling “stoner-pop” hero {Arthur Yoria} will soon be forsaking H-town for the hipsterish ‘hood of Brooklyn, NY. And he’s making the move really freaking soon, to boot: December 4th is the big day.
Which sucks, frankly, because I really, truly like the guy, both as a musician and as an oddball of a human being. Music-wise, he’s pretty stellar, seemingly able to effortlessly pull off any kind of musical persona he puts his hand to, whether it’s that of a suave, sex-you-up crooner (see his first EP) or a half-baked psych-pop slacker (see the most recent album). And no matter what he does, it’s uniformly great stuff.
So I’m damn sad to see Arthur go; the scene here will be dimmer & duller without him around. Before Moving Day arrives, however, there’s still a couple of chances to bid farewell… First, he’s playing this coming weekend, Saturday, November 27th, at some place I’ve never heard of called Wine Styles, and it sounds like it’ll be a fairly low-key, intimate deal.
Then he’s playing his official “buh bye texas” show on Thurs., December 2nd, over at Super Happy Fun Land (along with Moomaw & Gravid Wives. If you get a chance, definitely stop by one show or the other & give the guy a hug, a fistbump, whatever, and wish him luck up in NYC.
AY is back in our humble little tasting room here in NW Houston this Friday 3-25 from 8 to 10:30!
Sweet — thanks for the heads-up!
