Music, Games, The Fire: An Interview with Senses Fail’s Buddy Nielsen
An hour didn’t seem so long to wait once we entered the Senses Fail tour bus. La June and I had arrived promptly at 3 o’clock, looking for someone to speak to about the interview we had set up at 4, but there was nobody in sight.
After waiting for a while, we decided to find someone to speak to. As we approached the Senses Fail bus, we saw Jason Black (bassist) hanging outside; I explained to him our situation, and he sent someone to confirm our interview. Not even a minute later, he asked us to come in.
As soon as I entered, the first thing I saw was singer Buddy Nielsen sitting to the left; it kind of caught us off guard, since we didn’t expect him to just be there watching a football game. We had a little chat before the interview officially started, he and I sharing our love and hate about certain basketball teams as June calmly stared at him. Then we got to business.
June and I started out by asking him about new album The Fire. He told us about how being honest with your music helps you build a fan base. He also mentioned how his lyrics don’t represent him all the time — it’s a part of him, but not who he is 24/7. We asked him a few questions about some of his favorite things, and to my surprise, he was a really nice guy. He made us feel so comfortable that it made it feel like he was one of our friends.
