Buy A Book (Soon), Help Out Would-Be Girl Rockers
I’m really damn late on this; apologies for that, but I figured there wasn’t much point to mention it ’til I’d actually reviewed the thing, y’know?
And yes, now I have — as of Monday, there’s a review up of The Bible Spelled Backwards Does Not Change the Fact That You Cannot Kill David Arquette, And Other Things I Learned in The Black Math Experiment, the book written by former (and maybe current?) Black Math Experiment frontman and sometime SCR contributor Jef With One F.
I’ll spare you a total rundown of the review itself, but I feel compelled to say that yeah, I really do like the book, all concerns and personal connections aside. It’s partly a band bio, sure, but the better part (for me, anyway) is the personal stuff, the stuff about Jef’s childhood and all the quirky ways his brain works. I’ve read it twice now, and I still find myself both cracking up and nodding along in agreement. There’s a bit I’d trim out, sure, but even with that, I’d seriously recommend it. It’s a good read.
There’s an extra-special bonus to getting the book, too, at least for the rest of this week. After learning about the plight of the {Girls Rock Camp Houston} folks — who I hear are still somewhat in the hole for their inaugural term this August — Jef decided to say the hell with it and donate all of his royalties from sales of the book this month (June, that is) to the GRCH crew.
Now, seeing as June’s almost over, that definitely doesn’t give you a ton of time to pick up a copy or three. But hey, if you’re looking for Christmas presents for the David Sedaris/Henry Rollins/H-town music scene fans in your life, it’s a damn good idea… Clickety here to grab a copy from Amazon.
