Tonight: Little Lungs + football, etc. + Whatabreaker(!) @ The Mink [2/09/2010 05:46:00 PM]:

Quick one for tonight, Tues., February 9th -- three bands, tonight, at the ever-sketchy Mink (I kid with love, folks), and it sounds like it's gonna be good.

Headlining we've got Brooklynites Little Lungs, who do a cool, Superchunk-meets-Sarge, female-fronted indie-rock thing that I'm finding nicely bitter, melodic, and raw (think maybe a less punk-rock Cruiserweight, too) and am wishing I'd heard before, well, right freaking now. Ain't enough hours in the day, y'all...

Preceding the out-of-towners, we've got football, etc., who're somewhat of a light-emo throwback to those heady mid-'90s days and who're forcing me to like 'em more each time I hear 'em play. The vocals get a bit shaky at times, but I'm enjoying the music, and yes, I desperately need to review their damn EP. Argh. Cut out the middleman (aka Me) and see for yourself.

While the two later-playing bands are damn cool in their own right, though, I must confess that it's early-openers Whatabreaker who've really got my attention. I mean, c'mon -- how can I not just freaking love the idea of a Jawbreaker tribute/cover band made up of local scenesters and ex-/current members of Tambersauro, Golden Cities, Storybook Weavers, & Fire Team Charlie)? No Myspace page, but these two videos from last month are really damn entertaining (despite the sound quality), esp. when they get shut down by an irate neighbor:
