Mark Yr Calendars: The Festival at Mink #2, Coming Up
I was pretty psyched when I first heard about the second installment of The Festival at Mink, coming up on February 27th at (duh) The Mink — I’d absolutely planned on going to the last Fest, but stuff came up, unfortunately, so I missed it. This time, though, I’d been trying to get my plans set well in advance.
Then things got a bit more complicated. If the date sounds familiar, that’s because not only is it the night Madlib(!) and Tegan and Sara(!!) are playing here in town, but it’s also the same date as the Free Press Houston 7 Year Anniversary Celebration over at Mango’s. Which means that this has all turned into the Tale of the Dueling Festivals.
And that’s a little painful, because while this city’s huge, hey, the pool of show-going Houstonians is remarkably finite. I’ve got my fingers crossed for The Festival (okay, for both festivals, I’ll admit it), though, because organizer Jason (of Alkari fame) is good people, and he’s pulled together quite a lineup of stellar bands from H-town and our sister city to the northwest.
Here’s the slate, last I heard; the bands start at 6PM and run ’til 2AM:
- Orents Stirner
- The Dry Season
- Covington
- Gretchen Schmaltz
- Flowers to Hide
- Giant Battle Monster
- The Sour Notes
- DuneTx
- Alkari
- Mike Booher and the Turkeys (ex-Zykos/Zookeeper)
- The Manichean
- White Rhino
Anyway, there you go — it’s gonna be a good show, I swear. $8 for the drinking crowd, $10 for the minors. Mark yr calendars now…
