Late-Breaking (To Me, Anyway) Change: Shonen Knife Now Playing Tonight, Not Tomorrow [11/08/2009 07:33:00 PM]:
Okay, so you can ignore the date over there on the flyer -- apparently the Shonen Knife show that was scheduled for tomorrow (i.e., Monday, Nov. 9th) is actually going to be, um, tonight, Sunday, Nov. 8th. Uh-oh. Not sure how/when the change happened, folks, but if you were planning on checking out the Ultimate Japanese Pop-Punk Band of All Time, you'd better get your ass on over to Mango's sometime in the next hour or so. Right?

And for those who haven't heard/seen Shonen Knife before, trust me when I tell you that the trio is out-and-out badass. They may look (esp. in their younger, coordinated-outfits days) like cutesy bubblegum J-pop, but honestly, they're nearer to a female Japanese Ramones than they are the saccharine, cheeseball, vapid pop you're bombarded with at Little Miyako's. (Although I will be a cheeseball myself and say that "Cycling Is Fun", off '93's Let's Knife, is one of my fave tracks ever...)

In the immortal words of the (sadly mortal) Kurt Cobain: "When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert."

Now, I've got no word whatsoever as to whether or not the supporting acts'll stay the same, but you should take note that raw, excellently drunken garage dudes Born Liars aren't listed on the Mango's Website anymore, and neither is Suzi Puke (although the Liars still list the show on their own Myspace); all Mango's has on there is Dead Roses. Who're very cool to see, mind you, and you should check 'em out if at all possible. Just want to manage expectations, that's all.
