Introduction – what am I doing here?
Hello,
I’m Rock Houston. I’m here to help you rock in the city we call home. Space City Rock (my parent company) has been helping me do that for years and I want to repay the favor. Several times now, I have come home after a show at 2 or 3am to email the “parent company” with some band names I want him to know about, and after awhile Jeremy told me I should blog about the shows I attend. I mentioned that I don’t have the writing skills that he does, but he hired me anyway. I told him I would give bands “constructive criticism” if I didn’t like them, and he hired me anyway. When I say hire, I use that term loosely. Hopefully it will get me into a few shows for free, but like everything in my life, I’m not doing this for money.
I’m always open to new bands. If you want me to come hear you I will find the time at some point. I have a love/hate relationship with Houston bands. I love a few and hate a few, and I’m pretty indifferent to quite a few. My tastes veer toward the operatic. My favorite bands of the last 10 years are Muse, Ours, and At The Drive-In. My favorite current Houston bands include Pale, The Tontons, Electric Attitude, and The Gold Sounds. I loved 61 Cygni and mytwilightpilot when they were around, and I think I saw Arthur Yoria 25 times in about a year when he had Matt Reynolds on slide guitar. I’m not a big fan of metal or emo but I can be swayed by good bands. I’ve been in bands myself for over 20 years. I know what it takes to get shows and to try to garner a following. I’ll do my best to help some of you do that through this blog.
Good to have you on-board, man… ;^)
