Two Shows, Two Reviews: Tambersauro (Tonight!) + This Year's Tiger (10/21!) [10/17/2008 06:25:00 PM]:
Last-minute as always, but as of this afternoon there's a brand-spanking-new review of the just-about-new album from local math-y, prog-y post-rockers Tambersauro, which is a lucky coincidence, since the band's officially releasing the disc this very evening (Friday, Oct. 17th) up at The Mink. I've never managed to catch the band live, but going by the album, they've gotta be pretty incredible -- the new release, Theories of Delusional Origin, didn't take long to creep its way, parasite-like, into my brain, drilling in deeper with its nicely-done combo of Slint-y moodiness, Polvo-esque sharp edges, Jonx-ish complexity (yeah, I did it -- I compared 'em to The Jonx...), and almost Eno-like atmospherics. It's good stuff, the kind of album that unfolds more & more every time you listen. (Looky here for the actual review.)

Plus, they're playing with listenlisten, whose folk-dirge-y strains were one of the absolute highlights of last weekend's Westheimer Block Party, Eat Grapes, about whom I've heard good things, and Hollywood Black, whose most recent EP knocked me flat & made me do a 180 on my initial impression of the band. It's a very weird bill, combining listenlisten's pre-electric folk with Hollywood Black's "big message" indie-punk and Tambersauro's brain-melting prog-jazz, but hell, that's pretty much the cool thing about Houston, right? It's all about the love of all music, so long as it's good...

And speaking of good music, we've got another new review up, courtesy of Teri Sue, who's written glowing praise of This Year's Tiger -- check here to see what she said, but suffice it to say that she really, really likes these guys. Really. And heck, so do I, so I can throw no stones; I still need to check out their EP, but the songs on their Myspace are nice & raw, in that Florida punk kind of way. Anyway, they're also playing this coming Tues., October 21st at Walter's, alongside fellow locals Barkus, Sly, and the Golden Egg & Fire Team Charlie and cool French indie-rock kids Jordan.

There's more up on the site -- it's been waaaay too long since I posted here about reviews & such -- but that's it for now. More soon...
