The Rundown, Pt. 1: Saturday Is Mia Kat Empire Day [9/05/2008 12:11:00 AM]:
Well, at Cactus Music, at least; this coming Saturday, September 16th (from 1-5PM), Cactus is hosting its first-ever Mia Kat Empire Day, focused on the award-winning-est local label in town, they of the tyrannical-yet-lovable cat.

And seeing as they're an actual record label that puts out actual music, yeah, it kinda makes some sense that they'd have bands playing, too. Here's the schedule, per the Cactus Myspace:

1:00 The Mayapples
1:30 The Goods
2:00 Convair
2:30 Gretchen Schmaltz
3:00 Hollywood Black
3:45 Wood and Felt
4:15 Buxton

Good, good, good bands, all of 'em -- The Mayapples are label honcho Matt Ellis's band, and what I've heard by 'em has been pretty interesting, The Goods blow the roof off without even trying, Gretchen Schmaltz is the coolest jangle-emo-folkie around, Hollywood Black do some nicely-roaring indie-rock (esp. on their more recent EP), Wood and Felt ride the line between shoegazery and gentle ambient noise, and Buxton, well, they're one of my picks for Best Band in Town, particularly after catching their HPMA set this year. This is gonna be good, y'all.

And best of all (beyond the music, that is), it's (I think) free, and includes free St. Arnold's beer. Keep an eye on the bearded guy w/the halo, btw, 'cause he'll be back this weekend...
