Recession Thursdays in Full Effect Tonight: The Mathletes, The Goods, B L A C K I E, Giant Princess, & More
That’s a hell of a lineup, right there, one mighty enough that yes, yours truly will attempt to drag his sorry ass off the couch this evening (although the thought of watching Dragon’s Den with the wife is sorely tempting) and rock out up at Numbers. This is part of the Free Press Recession Thursdays thing, obviously, and so it’s cheap-cheap-cheap ($5, if the flyer’s to be believed), but even if it wasn’t, it’d be worth it. Here’s why:
B L A C K I E: strange-but-compelling, noisy, angry/bitter hip-hop that sounds like cLOUDDEAD mating with Techno Animal, except that it all comes from one guy.
The Mathletes: quirky, sweet-hearted, nerdy-glasses-wearing indie-pop about unicorns, asteroids, and what happens after you graduate from high school.
The Goods: raw, guitar-heavy rawk that’s less indie/punk/whatever are more — yes, seriously — grunge than anything else.
Giant Princess: noisy, bluesy, lo-fi, and goooooooood.
Generation Landslide: a last-minute addition after the Recession Thursdays show last week where they were supposed to play (Something Fierce=down w/the flu; Television Skies=broken up), I’m afraid I don’t know these folks, although I have heard good things about their power-pop-iness.
The Reverse X-Rays: just added to the bill, a crew of Austinites I don’t know (sorry!)…
There you go. If you didn’t know where to be tonight before, well, now you do.
