Cactus Reborn…

Yep, from the Holy-Fuckin’-Shit! File: much-revered, sadly-missed local music emporium Cactus Records has clawed its way out of its grave. I’d heard rumors that this might happen for a while now but was trying not to jinx it by putting too much stake in ’em, y’know? It almost sounded too good to be true.

Now, though, the news comes from Lomax over at the Press, and he’s been good pals with the old Cactus crew for a long time, so odds are that he’s not making it up as some sort of sadistic November Fools joke. He reports that tomorrow night, November 2nd, will be the grand opening for the brand-new Record Ranch art gallery and a pre-opening glimpse of the resurrected Cactus Music and Video, which will both be opening at the same spot, 2110 Portsmouth (Shepherd Plaza, across from The Stag’s Head).

I’m not positive, but it sounds like the two-stores-in-one-location thing is gonna be kind of like the whole On The Mouth thing, where it’s inside Sig’s Lagoon — from some of the info I’ve seen, it sounds like The Record Ranch will be a room inside Cactus, but I don’t know for sure. Guess we’ll have to see…

Anyway, if you want to take a look at Cactus Mk II, head on over the Shepherd Plaza tomorrow night between 7 & 10PM. While you’re there, check out the art at the Record Ranch, which includes pieces by Carlos Hernandez of the Flamin’ Hellcats. And then offer heartfelt prayers of thanks to your chosen deity/power/gigantic fiery burrito of choice for bringing back an H-town institution.
